How to wash a membrane snowsuit
The membrane in the Apollo snowsuit and the snow pants keeps out wind and wet and lets vapour escape. To keep it working longer:
- Close all zippers before washing. On the Apollo with faux fur trim the fur is attached with a zipper - take it off.
- Use a liquid detergent for membrane fabrics. Powder and softener can stay in the membrane pores, so it breathes less well.
- Wash the Apollo on a delicate cycle at 30 °C and dry it laid out, away from radiators. The snow pants can be tumble dried.
- No need to wash after every walk: wipe dirt and snow off the legs and cuffs with a damp sponge.
The Hollowsoft padding in the Apollo does not absorb moisture and recovers its shape after washing, and the Thermoloft Active in the snow pants hardly shrinks in the wash.
Footmuffs and hand muffs: fleece or sheepskin
Fleece footmuffs and hand muffs are easier to care for: the fleece Trend and fleece hand muffs are machine washable, and the fleece Baby XS goes on a delicate cycle at 30 °C. Sheepskin items (100% wool) are best dry cleaned; at home only hand wash with wool shampoo and no machine spin. After machine washing the wool gets matted: the warmth stays, but the look changes.
If machine washing matters to you, choose the fleece version - it is made for down to -20 °C too. More on the difference: sheepskin or fleece.
Merino wool mix hats, snoods and mittens
DoRechi winter hats and snoods and knitted mittens are made of merino wool mix yarn. Hand wash them only, in warm water with a wool detergent, with no washing machine, dryer, softener or bleach, and do not iron them. Dry the item flat on a towel so it does not stretch. The pom-pom on pom-pom hats is detachable on a snap - take it off before washing.
Mid-season items
Mid-season hats and snoods in cotton rib can be machine washed at 30 °C on cotton or delicate, spin 400 rpm, and dried flat. The Zefir velour suit is washed on a delicate cycle at 30 °C, not wrung and not ironed - steam a creased fabric instead.
Booties, mittens and stroller accessories
Winter booties and waterproof mittens are machine washed on a delicate cycle at 40 °C and tumble dried on low heat; do not bleach, dry clean or iron them. Stroller seat liners can be washed by hand or on a delicate machine cycle with a low spin and ironed at 110 °C. Knitted blankets are washed at 30-40 °C, ideally in a laundry bag, and dried flat.
How to store winter wear between seasons
- Wash or clean the item before storing it - stains set over time.
- Make sure it is completely dry, especially the padding and sheepskin.
- Store items in a dry wardrobe, laid out, in a breathable cover; wool items with a moth repellent.
- Check the size for next winter in advance: snowsuits are chosen by height with about 6 cm for growth during the cold months. See the size guide.
